Flidais Desta, common name Portland Rain, these grey bottom-feeders are named after their appearance: grey sky with sparkly twinkly rain.
Sizes vary from 2.5in to 5in in diameter. The sparkles get brighter and sparklier on dark rainy days; trying to compensate for the lack of sun. They feed on the rain and are most active in the rainy season. During the sunny summer months, these species go into hibernation while splashes of colors burst in the Portland landscape.
Fabric Jellyfish carefully and delicately handmade with hand-cut and heat-manipulated organza.
The bell(or hood) of the jellyfish uses semi-transluscent gray organza with subtle specs of glitter splashed across the surface.
The tentacles are created with a lighter colored but heavier weight gray organza with fairy-like polka dotted glitter.
Between 3.5" to 4" in diameter.
Each jellyfish is attached with 4ft long lightweight monofilament for easy installation, and comes in Sayuri's World gift box. (See last photo)
Handmade with love and care by Sayuri.
Intended to be hung in mid-air in a natural light abundant setting with some subtle air movement.
*IMPORTANT NOTE: As each jellyfish is handmade no two will be alike, so your piece will not look exactly like the one photographed but it will be very similar. This is also the intention of the artist to create an organic and expressionistic interpretation of nature through her eyes.
